A phone thief in China identified simply as Wang was sentenced to 10 months in prison and fined $320 recently for stealing phones from sleeping hospital patients in Shanghai’s Jiading district.
But that was just what he wanted: to be able to go to prison quickly to fulfil his life’s wish.
According to scmp.com, Wang, a 45 -year- old native of eastern China’s Jiangxi province, made himself easy to catch and jailed in order to join the Shanghai Tilanqiao Prison ’s artistic troupe, a group that has won dozens of awards and staged more than 5,700 performances.
Wang, a Shanghai-based artist told police, “I wanted a stage on which to sing.
“Tilanqiao provides this stage, since they get to perform at various prisons . Once I go to prison , I will be able to bring this to a fulfilling end . I will not repeat the same mistakes, I won’t do it anymore.”
