Photos: Germany Donates Six Sniffer Dogs, Mercedes To NDLEA

The German Government has in its show of support for the fight against drug trafficking in the country donated six trained sniffer dogs and a Mercedes bus to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

The German Deputy Consul General, Alexandra Herr while donating the items in Lagos to the Director of Operations and General Investigation of the Agency, Mr Olugbenga Mabo stated that the gifts are part of the nation’s support for the improved fight against corruption in the country.

Herr while donating the gifts said: “It is important to have the right tools to work and I commend the cooperation between Germany and Nigeria in combating drug trafficking through the aid of sniffer dogs. I am eager to see positive results in the canine operations of the Agency.”

Mabo while receiving the gifts from the German government stated that the agency has made a total of 20 major arrests and seizures of banned substances.

He stated that the combined weight of the seized substances total 17,432kg.

He added: “Twenty major arrests and seizures of narcotic drugs comprising cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, ephedrine, and cannabis with a combined weight of 17,432kg were made with the assistance of the sniffer dogs since 2009.

“The contribution of Germany government has made a tremendous impact on the operations of the Agency at the airport, seaport and land borders. This additional support will ensure that more drug trafficking syndicates are dislodged.”

The NDLEA spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju stated that three officers have recently completed a 16-week basic training course at the Police Dog School in Neustadt, Saxony Germany under the facilitation of the German government.

The number of dogs which has been donated to the NDLEA since 2009 has been increased to fourteen.
