(Photos): Mob Allegedly Burns Beautiful Girl To Death In Cross River

4 Min Read

A Facebook user, Maurice Effiwatt, has disclosed how an unidentified young lady was allegedly set ablaze in Obudu area of Cross River on Friday, December 28.

According to him, the lady, who appeared to be in her 20s, was dragged out of her residence by an angry mob, beaten up, paraded around the community, and set ablaze.

He said that the mob accused her of being the girlfriend of a bike thief and also saved as an informant to the boyfriend’s gang.

However, Effiwatt said that the claims were unsubstantiated.

Taking to his Facebook page, he said:

SACRILEGE IN OBUDU, THE HOME LGA OF THE PDP GOVERNOR OF CROSS RIVER STATE, WHERE A NON-INDIGENOUS YOUNG LADY WAS BURNT TO DEATH, BASED ON UNSUBSTANTIATED ALLEGATIONS.
The videos of a non indigene girl (pictured) burnt on friday 28th Dec by youths without intervention of elders, chiefs or leaders, call for prayers & penitence! It may even call down anger of the Divine unless urgent steps are taken!
If there were proven allegations against her, the traditional thing to do is to banish her and escort her out of the town. The alternative thing to do is to hand her over to the police.
But to parade her around the town for hours, dehumanise her and then burn her is a new low in the history of Cross River. And then what was she suspected of? She was suspected of being in league with bike thieves. It was claimed that her boyfriend is a thief. So where is the boyfriend? Was she caught red handed? Was she caught with a bike? To be dragged out of her house and brutally murdered is reprehensible, unacceptable and abominable!
Under normal circumstances, how believable is that allegation? A girl who had finished in FCE, OBUDU, and stayed back to trade!
She may well not be innocent but she does not in the least deserve that treatment. This is a sacrilege, this is unafrican, this is unchristian and this is unObudu!
1. How does this kind of action help the reputation of Obudu at a time when an Obudu son is governor?
2. How does this help attract investments and skilled persons to Obudu?
3. How does this depict all Cross Riverians in the eyes of the world?
4. No matter how temper rises, elders and wisdom must prevail!
5. The elders and chiefs must bring their youths under control.
I am virtually an Obudu person and I am alarmed that this will happen in that beautiful scenic town. A town that is so well regarded by the whole country because of the ranch.
Will this now encourage or discourage visitors to the ranch ?
For such barbaric acts to happen under the watch of a “home” Governor, is to say the least, very disheartening and shows a complete failure of government.
Please my people, NEVER AGAIN !!!
ENOUGH SAID.
