Nigerian champions Kano Pillars have stated that the team’s 2-0 loss to Wikki Tourists in the eight-team pre-season tournament in Kano does not depict the team’s .ahead of the upcoming season.

Pillars enjoyed success in a similar tournament in Niger at the start of the month and they were regarded as the top favourite for the trophy but finished in third place.

They justified the confidence reposed in them by beating Ranchers bees 4-1 in their opening match and also posted a 2-1 win over Buguji United in their second game on Sunday.

They met their waterloo in the semifinal on Tuesday and club’s spokesman Idris Mailikawa said the defeat has not dented the team’s pride.

‘’ Wikki gave us a good fight and they were rewarded with a win. We had a good game and we are taking positives from the competition because we have used it to test some of our young players who are just
rising up.
‘’ We came to win but we are happy that we gave some of our young players the opportunity to show their quality.
