At least 500 Nigerians who were deported from the United Kingdom have arrived at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

According to the BBC, the plane conveying the deportees landed in Lagos on Wednesday morning.

Many of the deportees are said to be unhappy with the deportation, with some of them claiming not to have any relations in Lagos and have become stranded because of it.

It will be recalled that Nigerian authorities had expressed concern with the proposed deportation by the British Government, insisting that due process be followed before any deportation is carried out.

The Nigerian government also urged the British government to ensure that the deportees are really Nigerians, are medically fit to travel and can integrate into the Nigerian society.

Prior to the flight taking off on Tuesday evening from the UK, some anti-deportation activists had protested the deportations, with some trying to prevent the bus conveying them from proceeding to Stansted airport for a flight to Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone, BBC reported.
