Plateau Shut Private Hospital as 17 Staff Members Test Positive to COVID-19

The government of Plateau state has shut down a private hospital after 17 staff members alongside two patients tested positive to COVID-19.

According to the state commissioner for health, Dr. Nimkong Lar, most of the affected staff members were infected by the two patients being managed by the hospital. Identified as Rayfield Medical Centre located at Jos South Local Government area of the state.

He also revealed that of the affected staff members have died.

“Screening of primary and secondary contacts revealed that 17 staff of the hospital have tested positive for the virus and are also being attended to by the state ministry of health officials.

“Unfortunately, we lost one of them.”

He thereafter revealed that 29 health workers have been infected by COIVD-19 in the state so far.

The commissioner however called on the state residents not to panic because the state government is handling the situation effectively. He urged the residents to adhere to health rules and guidelines put in place to control the spread of COVID-19.
