A new study has revealed that playing outside can improve your child’s eyesight because hours spent glued to television screens and electronic devices is creating an epidemic of eye conditions.

The study published by Ulster University found that the rate of short-sightedness among young people has doubled over the past 50 years.

David Allamby, an ophthalmologist reportedly said “Not having enough daylight may cause the eye to grow in an uncontrolled manner. It not only means children are having to wear glasses or contact lenses, with all the stigma that can bring, but being short-sighted increases the risk of a range of serious eye conditions.”

Professor Kovin Naidoo, chief executive of the Brien Holden Vision Institute at the University of New South Wales said a billion people could be blind by 2050 if world governments don’t protect the eye health of every child and adult world wide.
