Police Arraign 19 over Killing of Army General

The Plateau State Police Command has announced that 19 suspects will be charged to court in connection with the murder of retired Army General, Idris Alkali whose corpse was recently discovered in a shallow well.

General Idris Alkali was the immediate past chief of administration in the Nigeria Army before retirement; he had been declared missing several days later as he passed through plateau state, apparently on his way home in Bauchi.

The arraignment of the suspects was announced by the police public relations officer, Mr. Tyopev Mathias after they had been paraded at the Police headquarters in Jos on Sunday

Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Tyopev Mathias, disclosed this to reporters after parading the suspects on Sunday at the Police Headquarters in Jos, the state capital.

According to the Police PRO;

The suspects we have got were the ones who led us to the place. They confessed that they initially buried him and later exhumed the body, took it and dumped it into a pit, so what do you think Nigerians would need again?

In order to clear our name and make it abundantly clear to everybody, we have involved medical doctors and other forensic experts and investigation is ongoing and immediately we are done, we will still call the press and address them.”

He revealed further that after painstaking interrogation, the police Command had declared eight persons wanted, including the village head of Dura Did in Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

Out of the eight declared wanted however, only six had reported themselves to the police while the others remained at large.

General Alkali was travelling alone in his black Toyota Corolla car from Abuja to Bauchi via Jos in early September before he was intercepted by some youths.

The Army who had conducted a wide search for the General stated that Alkali had introduced himself to the youths who had disrupted his journey that he was a Army General just passing through to Bauchi.

They refused to listen to him however and proceeded to assault and murder him and shared his belongings among themselves including mobile phones and money.

Army personnel later found a shallow grave where the slain general was initially buried, and later recovered his body on Wednesday last week at Guchwet in Shen of Jos South LGA of Plateau State after which he was buried in military fashion with honour.
