Police arrest officer seen demanding bribe in viral video

A police officer seen demanding bribe from a motorist has been arrested, the Nigeria Police Force said on Saturday.

The Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the force disclosed this in a tweet attributed to the Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti State, where the incident occurred.

“The officer who was seen in this viral video behaving in an unprofessional and corrupt manner has been identified, arrested, disarmed, and detained for further investigation and disciplinary action,” the tweet read.

In the 38-second video, the policeman can be heard reprimanding a motorist for not giving him a bribe.

He said that the motorist’s offence was driving a car with tinted glass without the necessary permit.

The motorist begged the policeman to let him off the hook.

The motorist, whose face is not shown in the video, says, “I know I should give you money but I don’t have.”

Replying, the policeman said, “Your car is tinted but you’re begging me.

“If everybody begs like you’re doing, how will I get money to fuel (my) car.
