The Nigeria Police has on Saturday arrested the leader of a notorious armed robbery gang that specialises in robbing commercial banks in Lagos and Ogun states.

Some persons believed to be members of the gang were also picked up in the Sapele area of Delta state by operatives of the newly-constituted Special Intelligence Response Team (SIT) of the police Inspector General, after a gun duel.

The suspected gang leader, Kelly Fotor, also known as Kelvin, is believed to be the same Kelvin of Kokori, a notorious armed robbey suspect believed to have terrorised the South East and South South geo-political zones of the country in the past, Vanguard reported.

The gun duel between the suspected gang members led to the death of a policeman and caused various degrees of injuries to the suspects, who were arrested.

The gang is believed to be behind the Ikorodu, Festac, Lekki robberies in Lagos and the recent Agbara bank robbery in Ogun state on November 19, where 5 persons including a policeman and a nursing mother were killed.
