Police Identify Man Behind Kaduna Stage Breach as Mentally Ill APC Supporter

The Kaduna State Police Command has identified the man who breached security during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s speech in Kaduna as Umar Mohammed, a mentally ill supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Police spokesperson Mansir Hassan confirmed the development in a statement issued Friday. According to him, Mohammed, a native of Anguwan Muazu in Kaduna, suffers from a psychiatric disorder and had a long-standing desire to meet both the president and the state governor.

“On interrogation, he stated that he acted out of anxiety and emotional excitement,” Hassan said. “He was screened and admitted into the stadium like every other supporter, wearing APC-branded clothing and carrying banners with the images of the president and governor.”
The security breach occurred during President Tinubu’s televised address in Kaduna on Thursday. In widely circulated video footage, the president abruptly paused mid-sentence as his security detail moved swiftly to block the intruder, causing a moment of confusion on stage.
The incident raised fresh concerns about the robustness of presidential security arrangements, especially at public events. However, the police clarified that the individual posed no real threat, attributing the disruption to a mental health condition rather than any political motive.
Umar Mohammed remains in custody while further assessments are being made.
