Former presidential candidate, Obiageli Ezekwesili has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for joking about the spate of insecurity in the country.

Upon his return from a 10-day visit to London on Sunday, Buhari said, “I have just seen the IGP (Inspector General of Police), he is losing weight so I think he is working hard.”

The president had said this while reacting to rising reports of kidnappings, banditry, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the country.

But taking to her verified Twitter handle on Monday, Ezekwesili said, “And this is supposed to be funny? A President, Muhammadu Buhari, making a joke of the daily drenching of the country in the blood of his citizens who are killed daily without ANY consequence while he bears the title “Commander-in-Chief” ? Carry on. Someday the Citizens will be ready.”
