Police uncover plans by Kidnap kingpin Evans to break out from prison

Notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudubem Onwumadike, aka Evans has reportedly had his plans for escape from prison foiled.

The Nigerian Prison Service (NPS ) has since tightened security around him, as the recent plot to escape from prison was uncovered by the Intellegence Unit.

Evans, who is said to be the most notorious, high profile kidnapper and the richest in Nigeria – was,  arrested in July for his numerous criminal activities.

According to reports, a police source said Evans offered a policeman guarding his cell between $50,000 and $100,000, if he could aid in his escape.

The police source also said that Evans was allegedly planning to break out of Police custody with some members of his gang through a phone he obtained through illegal and “suspicious” means.

“When Evans was in our custody, he tried to escape but we were able to abort all his plans. We discovered that he had access to phones which were hidden in the middle of loaves of bread, eba, semovita and so on”, the source alleged.

“He was making calls from these smuggled phones in the middle of the night, making arrangements with some yet to be identified members of his gang to arrange for his escape.

“We intercepted how he was luring one of the guards with about  $50,000 to $100,000. He wanted an insider to serve as informant to him and members of his gang,” the source further said.

It was said that the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) has formed a heavy security ring around the suspect.

Evans, has been charged to court where he pleaded guilty to the crime.
