Police Invitation: Aisha Buhari Backs Timi, Busola Dakolo

The First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has waded into the controversy generated by the police invitation of popular musician, Timi Dakolo and his wife, Busola Dakolo over rape allegations against Senior Pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo.

Recall that Busola Dakolo had accused Fatoyinbo of raping her when she was 16 in 2000.

The popular pastor however denied the allegation.

Mrs Buhari’s intervention came in a tweet after policemen stormed the Lekki, Lagos residence of the Dakolos on Saturday purportedly to whisk them away to Abuja for interrogation over the matter.

In separate invitation letters sent to the couple, a photo of which was shared on social media by Mr. Dakolo, the police said the couple was needed for questioning on Tuesday, July 23 over alleged “criminal conspiracy”, “falsehood”, “mischief” and “threat to life”.

Many Nigerians took to social media to berate the police for the action, forcing the force to explain that the invitation extended to the couple was not a warrant of arrest.

But in a tweet via her verified Twitter handle over the weekend, the First Lady wrote: “ATTENTION: INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE #SayNoToRape #JusticeForRapeVictims #SayNoToIntimidation.”
