Police Kill Suspected Kidnapper In Lagos

A member of a kidnapping ring was shot dead by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS)  on Friday. The gang was said to have terrorized the people of Ilaro town and neighbouring communities.

The gang had kidnapped a man named Sanni Dan Nasarawa and tied him up in a forest for seven days while expecting the victim’s family to pay ransom. Unfortunately for the gang, the victim freed himself and escaped while they were sleeping and went to the lodge a complaint at the FSARS  in Abeokuta.

The Police PRO ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi said the police mobilized on Thursday and went with the victim to the forest where he had escaped his captors. According to him, the police began the search at 6:00 pm on Thursday till 4:00 am on Friday when they encountered the gang. and engaged them in a gun battle for over 30 minutes.

“At the end of the encounter, one of the suspects was gunned down while others numbering about seven escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries,” said  ASP Oyeyemi who added that an Ak-47 rifle with 15 rounds of ammunition was seized from the gang.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police  Ahmed Iliyasu in appreciation for his officer’s efforts requested that members of the public especially hospitals and traditional healing homes should report anyone they see with a gunshot wound in their area. He also promised residents of Ogun state that the police would quickly respond to any crime reported so as to ensure the public’s confidence in the force.
