Police Officers in Anambra to Commence Strike Action over unpaid Allowances

Several Police officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police in Anambra State have threatened that they would embark on a strike action due to the refusal of the government to pay their 2017 promotion allowances as they called on the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to intervene in the matter.

A spokesperson for the aggrieved officer who pleaded anonymity fearing victimization by the police hierarchy stated on Sunday the police officers involved had been promoted in May 2017, from the rank of Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police but were not paid the allowances that come with the promotion.

He said further that each aggrieved officer was entitled to an allowance of N400, 000 which was an accumulation from may 2017 till date and although some of them had already retired, the allowances have been held back by the administration authorities within the Police hierarchy.

“Those serving were only paid as ASPs from January 2018 till date but the allowances from May 2017 to December 2017 have never been paid and no explanations were offered as to why we will not be paid the allowances.

Those in charge of the recently introduced Integrated Payroll Personnel Information Scheme  in the office of the Accountant-General have not been able to explain why these allowances cannot be paid to us,” he said.

He further appealed to the Inspector-General of Police whose office he said might not be aware of the plight of the officers to investigate their claims and cause the allowances to be paid.

He went further to allege that police officers who had been  promoted before the 2017 batch had all been paid and wondered why theirs would be an exception.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, however denied the story, saying it was untrue and unfounded.
