The Nigerian Police is famous for flagrant human rights abuses, corruption and extra judicial killings and this showed again after officers assaulted and tear gassed new cadets training to be police officers.
Some of the recruits complained that their instructors and security personnel attached to them, treated them worse than animals at the screening venue at Makurdi, Benue State on Thursday.
In a video, the cadets stated that they were flogged, tear gassed and chased out of the recruitment exercise.
One of the victims alleged that the exercise was cancelled and they were chased out of the venue like dogs not minding them some of them came from out of Benue for the exercise.

One of the applicants, who came all the way from Lagos for the exercise, said he has been sleeping outside since he arrived Makurdi because there was nowhere for him to stay.

Earlier in the week, another video of fresh cadets being assaulted by training officers trended on the internet.
With fresh police recruits being manhandled and assaulted by their recruiters and trainers, it is no wonder that police officers assault innocent civilians every day.
