The Oyo state police have declared that the bomb threat against the University of Ibadan by a terrorist group is nothing but a ‘mere rumour’

Yesterday news that a message from a terrorist group who claimed they would bomb the school before the 1st of October spread all around campus spreading fear to all those who heard it and prompting the beefing up of security around the school.

According to the Vanguard, this is just a rumour as the Public Relations officer of the Police in the state, SP Adekunle Ajisebutu dismissed the story stating that Police had investigated but there was no shred of evidence to support any attack claims. He also added that the same news had circulated during the visit of Vice President Osinbajo.

Ajisebutu did say that the Police were not taking chances saying; “This informed why the Commissioner of Police dispatched anti-bomb unit and many policemen to the institution to beef up security”

Also dismissive of the news was the Director of Communication, UI, Olatunji Oladejo who said that it was just a ruse to scare people into panicking.

He said, “I also got it. Anyone could instigate such a thing. Some people could be mischievous. Our international students are having their carnival on the campus and everywhere is peaceful. I attribute it to the handiwork of mischievous individuals and vehemently deny any commotion.”
