Heavily-armed policemen on Friday stormed the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge as the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) prepares to resume toll collection at the bridge.

Witnesses said that the stern-looking policemen in no fewer than five vehicles had been stationed at the bridge in what appeared to be a show of force to discourage anyone that might want to disrupt the resumption of tolling.

LCC had resumed operations on April 1, stating that toll collection would start on April 15.

Recall that tolling had been suspended at the toll gate in the aftermath of the October 20, 2020 incident in which some #EndSARS protesters were allegedly shot by soldiers and policemen at the Lekki Toll Gate.

On Sunday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State sought for cooperation and understanding from residents and stakeholders just as he promised some concessions over the planned resumption of tolling at the Ikoyi Link Bridge and Lekki-Epe Expressway toll gates.

Sanwo-Olu spoke at a meeting with stakeholders which included leaders of the Lekki Residents Association (LERA), Lekki Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA), and some top state government functionaries.
