Tensions have been high among APC members as well as between APC and other political parties in the state. Although, the Inspector General of Police announced the deployment of 5,000 policemen to the state for the council polls, it has not deterred party faithful from engaging in political violence.

Many residents have likened the charged political atmosphere to the political crisis between Late Chief Omoboriowo and Late Pa Adekunle Ajasin during the governorship tussle of 1983.
