Pope Francis Wades In on Greatest Footballer Ever Debate

Lionel Messi is the greatest footballer in the world, according to Pope Francis.

The Pope who is incidentally from Argentina believes that Messi is better than Maradona and Pele.

“For me, [Lionel] Messi is better than Maradona and Pele,” the Pope was quoted as telling young men and women participating in World Youth Day.

Messi is Barcelona and Argentina’s all-time leading scorer.

He’s found a hard time of it in recent years with the national team prompting him to retire from international football after their latest loss to Chile in the Copa America final a while back.
