Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by a Magistrate Court in Ogun State.

Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo delivered the ruling on Thursday, convicting the singer on two of the three counts brought against him. The charges, which stemmed from an incident on November 18, 2022, involved assault and the theft of musical equipment.

According to the charge sheet (No. MIF/192C/2023), Portable committed the offences around 11 a.m. in the Okeosa area of Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District. He was initially arraigned in April 2023 and granted bail of N300,000 with two sureties from his family. However, he failed to attend several court hearings, which led to his remand ahead of last week’s proceedings.

Delivering judgment, Magistrate Ilo sentenced Portable to one month in prison with an option of a N10,000 fine for Count 1, and two months with a N20,000 fine option for Count 2.

The singer’s legal troubles come amid a string of controversies that have kept him in the spotlight since his rise to fame.
