Court Remands 2 Over Alleged Possession of Firearms

The defendants are facing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit robbery and unlawful possession of firearms, preferred against them by the Lagos State government.

 

The Prosecuting Counsel, Mr Usman Rilwan, told the court that the duo committed the alleged offences on Feb. 23, 2019, at about 11:30p.m, at the Stadium in Surulere area of Lagos.

 

Rilwan told the court that the defendants were unlawfully in possession of a cut-to-size locally-made gun, with the intent of commit robbery.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 297 (1) and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

 

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending trial.

 

Justice Iyabo Akinkugbe ordered that the defendants be remanded in a correctional facility.

 

She, thereafter, adjourned the case until March 10, for the commencement of trial.
