Postecoglou Credits ‘One Focus, One Target’ Mentality for Spurs’ Europa League Triumph

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has credited a unified mindset and unwavering belief for his team’s historic 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday night.
The tightly contested clash, held in Bilbao, was decided by a first-half goal from Welsh forward Brennan Johnson, securing Spurs’ first European silverware since their 1984 UEFA Cup win.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Postecoglou described the emotional significance of the triumph and highlighted the single-minded determination that carried the team through a challenging season.
“I can’t put it into words to be honest. I know I’m at an amazing football club with amazing supporters,” the Australian coach said. “It’s no secret it’s been a tough year, but I’ve just had these things inside me the back half of the year — one focus, one target. I just felt this was it.”
Postecoglou acknowledged the perception of Spurs as perennial underachievers, saying the victory was a statement of intent.
“To achieve it today… I know what it means to the club. It’s had the tag of a nearly team for a long time. The only way you break that is by winning things, and we did that today,” he added.
The 59-year-old manager, who took over at the North London club last summer, also pointed to belief as a driving force behind the campaign’s success.
“I knew I had a massive challenge in front of me, added stress of the injury situation. I have just had this laser focus on, ‘I believe we can win something this year.’”
The win marks a major milestone for Postecoglou in his debut season in European competition and signals a new chapter for Tottenham under his leadership.
