Presidency, Nigerians react to 92 new COVID-19 cases in Kano

Friday night’s announcement by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that Kano recorded 92 new COVID-19 cases has unsettled many Nigerians, including the presidency.

NCDC made the announcement in a series of tweets via its verified Twitter handle.

It noted that with 238 new confirmed cases on Friday, total number of infections in the country had hit 2170 with 68 deaths.

The Kano State Ministry of Health confirmed the new tally released by NCDC for the state in a tweet.

“As at 11:25 pm 1st May 2020, 92 new cases of COVID-19 cases confirmed. Total confirmed cases in Kano State are now 311.

“3 additional COVID-19 deaths were recorded. Total COVID-19 deaths are now 8,” the tweet read.

Reacting to the announcement, Personal Assistant to the President on New Media and Kano indigene, Bashir Ahmad, called for more sensitisation in light of the new figures and urged residents to abide by guidelines released by relevant health bodies to stay safe.

He also announced his personal donation of 5,000 face masks to residents of the state to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

“Kano, if it is a must to go out please wear your mask, let’s create more awareness, let’s double all our efforts to arrest the situation, let’s advocate the #MaskUpKano together, I am donating 5000 washable face masks to my immediate community, join me. #COVID19Kano,” Ahmad tweeted.

The presidential aide added,” Intensive sensitisation needed in Kano, we have a role to play, and we must play it now. 92 in Kano in one day, all hands have to be on deck. #COVID19Kano”
