The Presidency has reacted to Thursday’s reconciliatory meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his former deputy and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in 2019, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku had met Obasanjo in his home in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, to settle their long-lasting frosty relationship.

The Waziri of Adamawa had also gone to seek the support of his erstwhile boss for his presidential bid.

Others at the meeting included National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus; founder of Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo; Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hasan Kukah; Afenifere chieftain, Pa Ayo Adebanjo; respected Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi; and the senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district, Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce.

But reacting, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said they were gathered in vain as Atiku would lose in the presidential election scheduled for February 14, 2019.

Taking to his verified Twitter handle, Adesina said, “The harder they come, the harder they fall. 2019 presidential election on my mind.”

Reacting to Adesina’s comment, a PDP chieftain, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, said that the party was more than prepared to meet the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the field.

Also taking to his Twitter handle, Fani-Kayode said, “Rematch time is almost here. We shall meet in the field brother. And may the best man win.”

He added, “Today Baba OBJ, Bishop David Oyedepo, Baba Ayo Adebanjo, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Sheik Abubakar Gumi and a host of other leaders endorsed Atiku for the Presidency and rejected Muhammadu Buhari.

“This represents the end of an evil govt. and era. Thanks be to God. He is faithful.”
