The Presidency has dismissed former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai’s criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, insisting that he lacks the capacity to “unsettle” the government.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, stated that the president is not losing sleep over El-Rufai’s remarks. Speaking during an interview with TVC News on Thursday, Bwala emphasized that Tinubu remains focused on governance despite opposition efforts.
When asked if the Presidency was concerned about El-Rufai’s comments and the alleged regrouping of opposition politicians, Bwala said Tinubu was unbothered.
“Who is jittery? The political opponents have no direction. There is no organized political party in Nigeria other than the APC. Almost all opposition parties are trying to find their way,” he said.
Bwala further noted that Tinubu has consistently maintained a reconciliatory stance and has refrained from engaging in political confrontations.
“In his 18 months in office, he has never reacted to anybody. He has never been seen being combative or aggressive against anybody,” he added.
According to him, El-Rufai only gains political relevance when he aligns with a “solid revolutionary” leader.
“El-Rufai is still in APC. You treat him like a brother. I know his grandstanding. I know he is having some trouble finding a path,” Bwala said.
El-Rufai has been vocal in his criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Tinubu’s leadership, arguing that the party has deviated from its founding principles. He also accused APC leadership of lacking internal democracy and failing to hold meetings for over two years.
