The Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, has threatened to decamp from the All Progressives Congress (APC) if the Adams Oshiomhole-led national leadership of the party fails to endorse his anointed gubernatorial candidate, Abdul-Kabir Adekunle Akinlade.

The governor reportedly made the threat during a Wednesday night meeting with party leaders and his loyalists across the 20 local government areas of the state at his private residence in Abeokuta.

The meeting came few hours after some APC governors led by Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State met with President Muhammadu Buhari over the contentious primaries in the states.

Although he did not name the party he would join, Amosun berated some elements within the APC in the state for turning the party rules on its head by organising indirect primaries that produced another governorship candidate, Dapo Abiodun, after Akinlade had emerged from direct primaries across the state.

Daily Sun quoted a source at the meeting as saying that Amosun disclosed that he could not work with the  candidate, Dapo Abiodun, whom he said does not have the capacity to win a senatorial seat let alone a gubernatorial seat.

Amosun was quoted as saying that he would rather quit the party than support Abiodun.

However, Amosun said he would never defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
