‘Prof. Soyinka is a giant but he can fall like any common man’ – First lady Patience Jonathan responds in codes

The first lady is not too happy with Professor Soyinka’s recent remarks towards her and she has not reserved her comment. Speaking in a statement released by her spokesman, Ayo Osinlu, the wife of the president has issued a coded message to literary icon, Nobel prize winner and civil activist, Mr. Wole Soyinka that would make the authors of the Magna Carter and Holy Grails green with envy.

The first lady through her spokesman said a few things in the statement without directly saying them. Here is what The Herald picked:

The spokesperson let it be known that this would not be the first time Soyinka would embark on a campaign of calumny on the person of the first lady. Mr. Osinlu also let it be known that the first lady was not pleased.

He said, “Unfortunately, Soyinka betrayed moral duty in his recent diatribe against Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

“Of course, this would not be the first time he would reach out against the First Lady, usually from self-righteously indignant lecterns.

“In this particular instance, his verdict was that Mrs. Jonathan was ‘stoking the crisis currently rocking her home state of Rivers…’, and thereupon asked Mr. President to caution his wife.”

“The good, old Prof. reminds one of the truth that indeed, most of the giants on the street are men of like passions like everyone else. Worse still, most of them are actually standing on clay feet and would fail the test of a gentle push.

“Otherwise, who would have believed that the social, civil, constitutional and sundry rights crusader Prof. would maintain a safe distance from the heart of an activity that is a potential threat to the peace, security and safety of the people of a state, then collect exaggerated stories and jaundiced perspectives from familiar propagandists and character assassins, and promptly summon the media to a ‘state of the nation’ address.”

“It’s an embarrassment to his throng of admirers and followers, that a sage of Prof. Soyinka’s status, who used to be a gauge of public morality in this nation, would lend himself to a propaganda of high drive, to save a governor who elected to launch into a river without applicable survival skills.”

  • Let the Dame speak for herself. She does not even understand the highfalutin language of his ‘spokesman’. The Prof. does not ‘run his mouth like your “first lady”. Those who run roughshod over history usually end up ignomiously in history. Watch out!

    • What the prof said was wrong, remember she is a human being like me and you. The prof should have gotten first hand information by visiting Rivers state and hearing from ordinary citizens before drawing conclusion. Opposition parties are just manipulating our minds to suit their agenda. Prof should remember that first he is man before a prof and a noble laureate and can fall. He undignified the First Lady with his comments and God can humble him.

  • Do you need a fact finding mission to see that the first lady doesn’t have class and is intereferring with governance as well as abusing her “position”
And this spokesperson is trying too hard at grammar. Everyone can see you had to bring out the dictionary.
