Prominent Lagos Oba Abducted, Wife Shot, Guard Killed

Gunmen have abducted a prominent traditional ruler in Lagos, Oba Yushau Goriola Oseni, the Oniba of Ibaland.

The gunmen, suspected to be militants, were said to have stormed the community Saturday night in a speedboat, shooting sporadically.

A source said the gunmen killed Oseni’s guard, a Neighbourhood Watch officer and then shot his wife before escaping with the monarch, PM news reports.

The gunmen were said to have been about 16 in number and they allegedly killed a motorcyclist and the monarch’s guard, while severally persons were injured.

A source who confirmed the abduction to The Nation, disclosed that there were also shootings around Agbede in Ikorodu.

“It’s true that the Kabiyesi was kidnapped. His abductors struck through the waterways and fled through same channel. Policemen from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) went there and an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) has been station.

“Various operations have been going on since last week particularly around Ikorodu. Policemen are still at Ishawo following the attack by militants and there were gunshots at Agbede,” the source said.
