Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has divorced his Jamaican wife, Chanel Chin. In a statement by Oluwo’s press secretary, Alli Ibrahim, said the couple ended the marriage “after irreconcilable differences.”

The Herald gathered that Ibrahim on Sunday, December 15, in a telephone conversation, confirmed the development.

The statement read: “This is to inform the general public, most especially friends and associates of the Oluwo of Iwoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, that Ms Chanel Chin is an ex-queen of his majesty.

“This information is necessary for the attention of the general public to avoid representation on proxy or accordance of respect attached to the sacred stool of Oluwo to her. For personal irreconcilable differences, Chanel Chin ceased to be his Majesty’s queen.”

Meanwhile, The Herald reported that the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, said he did nothing wrong by crowning his wife.

The traditional ruler, whose kingdom is in Osun State, said he was only following in the footsteps of the progenitor of Yoruba race, Oduduwa, who crowned his wife Olokun.

“Did Oduduwa commit an abomination by crowning his queen? I crowned my wife in respect of what Oduduwa did to Olokun, his wife. The only exception was that oloris (queens) never put up the most sacred crown.

“No king dares such. Before you accuse Oluwo, did Oduduwa equally desecrate his stool by crowning his wife?” Oluwo said in a Friday statement.

The first class monarch said it was his responsibility to resuscitate some long-forgotten practices of the founder of the race.

He said: “Most times, some try to kill educative and evidential practices because they don’t like the originator. If you don’t like Oluwo, do you hate Oduduwa?.

“Oduduwa was the first symbol of authority in Yoruba land. He crowned Olokun as evidential in the picture. Just like his husband, Olokun was responsible and carried the paraphernalia of monarchy with his husband.”
