Rape-  A middle aged man was thoroughly beaten as he was tied to a stake after he was caught raping a seven year old girl by youths in Warri, Delta State.

The man who has been identified as an ex-convict and has been frequent in and out of prison was caught in the act at about 4pm on Saturday evening.

The man confessed that he lured the victim to a secluded hide-out and defiled her after which he was beaten to within an inch of his life and tied to a stake by the community youths.

Reports coming out of Minna, Niger state also reveal that a twenty- nine year old man has violated the sanctity of the Othordox Church Minna, where he was caught raping an Eleven year old girl behind the church premises.

The man raped the teenager three times at the same spot and proceeded to blame the devil for his actions after he was caught on the third occasion.

He was paraded before newsmen at the police headquarters in Minna where he confessed to the crime adding that he did not know what came over him. He however told policemen and newsmen that he was in love with the girl which is why he had sex with her.

“I love the small girl, she is so beautiful that I can’t let her go without making love to her as she always submit to me and I have been making love to her at least I have done it for more than three times,” he confessed.

 

Civil and women rights group have decried the increasing rate of cases of rape across the country, calling for stronger sanctions against rapists by the government. These groups have also urged the government to find a lasting solution to the issue of rape of underage children mainly by people close to them.
