Rapper M.I Abaga Regrets Supporting APC, Says Party Fell Short of Expectations

Veteran Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I, has expressed regret over his past support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), admitting that the party has not lived up to the hopes he once had for it.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Menism podcast, M.I explained that he initially backed the APC during the 2015 general elections because he believed the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was corrupt. However, he now believes that the APC has failed to deliver on its promises.

“I supported APC because, at that time, I felt the PDP government was very corrupt. I was part of the people who lifted my voice to say, ‘Let us stand and bring in democracy,’” M.I said.
The ‘African Rapper No. 1’ crooner made the comments while addressing backlash he received for tweeting about herdsmen attacks in Benue State. Critics had reminded him of his earlier endorsement of the ruling party.
“Yes, I supported the APC. But unfortunately, it isn’t the APC of my dreams,” he added. “As human beings, no matter how much you try to be right, you will be wrong sometimes.”
M.I also stated that he has since shifted his focus to nation-building through art and youth collaboration, noting that he now prefers to use his platform to inspire change.
“I’m focused on building with other young people to create a better country,” he said.
