The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has raised alarm concerning his safety as he disclosed that he might soon be arrested by security operatives in the state.

The Rivers state governor expressed his fear while speaking at a special court session to mark the opening of the 2016/2017 legal year of the state Judiciary in Port Harcourt.

Wike, during the event, said there was no respect for people in government and thus he has the fear of leaving the government house.

Wike further expressed dissatisfaction at how security operatives had arrested Judges adding that they did so like they were ‘common criminals’.

The Rivers state governor said: “I was afraid to come out for this programme when I heard that all the security heads in this state came for the programme.

“So, I told my orderly to pack some of my things into a bag that I may not return because they may arrest me from there.

“My orderly asked, but you have immunity, I told him that there couldn’t be immunity in Nigeria when people are arrested anyhow. We don’t respect the rule of law. Anybody can be arrested at any time.”

The state governor further accused the Muhammadu Buhari-led anti-corruption campaign. He described the campaign as one with no significant use.

He said: “The fight against corruption in the country undermines development. It serves no useful purpose”.

Further at the event, Wike slammed the Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) and Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for ganging up againt the embattled judges and requesting that they step down.
