A Katsina man, Basiru Audu, is presently cooling his feet in police custody after sexually assaulting his six-year-old daughter in Niger State.
Neighbours at Audu’s London Street, Minna residence alerted the police after noticing his daughter walking awkwardly and upon questioning were told by the girl that her father “put something in her private part”.
According to reports, 30-year-old Audu blamed his wife’s absence for his decision to sleep with his own daughter.
His wife was said to be away to their Daura, Katsina hometown when the incident occurred on July 16.

Audu, who reportedly confessed to have slept with other underage girls before descending on his own daughter, said he sneaked into the children’s room at night and defiled his daughter.
“I blamed my wife for not being around when I needed sex, she travels a lot and that was why I had to sleep with my daughter; what a shameful thing.
“That night, I was having a burning sensation to have sex and since my wife was not around, I had no option but to sleep with my daughter to ease off tension,” The Punch quoted the suspect as confessing.
Condemning the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Command, Muhammad Abubakar said, “When a father decides to sleep with his biological daughter, I think the world is coming to an end.”
