Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has said that he is willing to terminate his relationship with All Progressives Congress and rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party if President Jonathan returned the Soku oil wells taken from Rivers and handed to Bayelsa.

Amaechi made the remarks at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, lamenting that despite the 2.1 million votes secured for President Jonathan in Rivers, the President had done nothing to develop the State.

“We gave President nearly 2.1 million votes. Let him tell us one project he has done for us. I have challenged the President that I belong to APC. If he wants me back in PDP, let him return the oil wells to the Kalabari people and I will come back.

“But the President cannot. Instead, he will take more. One of our sons; a Kalabari son, said the oil wells were taken under Rufus Ada-George. Tell him I say he is lying. He never served in any government. I served under Ada-George government and there was no oil well taken from Rivers State then.

“I served under Dr. Peter Odili. The oil well was taken in 2006. They put the money in an escrow account and by 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, they took all the money and gave it to our brothers and they converted Soku to Bayelsa.

“In Etche, they have taken our 41 oil wells, they are denying us our rights; we have suffered enough,” Amaechi said.

The Governor also called on people to put aside regional sentiments and focus on personal interest ahead of the 2015 elections.

“One other thing that is bothering me is that all those that are on the other side saying we want South-South president; I agree with them, but in politics, you don’t just go to a place because you like someone.

“You go because you have your own political interest,” he said.

Speaking on corruption in the country, he stated, “I have never seen corruption like this in Nigeria before. They are busy pursuing us with EFCC.

“They have never pursued any federal agency with EFCC. I will quote the governor of Edo State. He said, ‘If you write (sit for) an exam and you score 26 per cent, have you passed?

“But if you score 52 per cent, haven’t you passed? Federal Government is holding 52 per cent of our money; EFCC should pursue that 52 per cent and leave 26 per cent. If you succeed there, haven’t you succeeded?”
