Real Madrid beat Sevilla on Saturday to move three points clear of champions Barcelona in the La Liga Satander.

The Galacticos can maintain the position for a few hours tentatively before Barcelona have the chance to reclaim it on goals difference.

Unlikely hero, Brazillian Caseimero took centre stage with a brace coming at either side of Luuk de Jong’s exquisite, curled equaliser for the away side.

City rivals Athletico Madrid loss ground against the leaders following their shocking defeat to Eiber.

A win for Barcelona against Grenada on Sunday will see them back to the summit of the La Liga and the Catalans new manager has named a strong side for the match.

Fourth-placed Sevilla were lively in the opening exchanges which is characteristic of their season so far. The visitors thought they had broken the deadlock in the first half when video assistant referee (VAR) ruled out Lukk De Jong’s first goal after Nemanja Gudelj was adjudged to have blocked Eder Militao as the Real defender attempted to follow De Jong’s run.

The game dragged on until the 57th minute before Real Madrid could spark the game to life but Sevilla quickly responded 7 minutes later before Casemiro then headed in the eventual winner from a Lucas Vazquez cross.

With the Spanish Super Cup already negotiated, Real set their sight on the league title.
