Spanish club Real Madrid are in the process of undertaking legal proceedings against  a Portuguese newspaper that reported the club waded into the Cristiano Ronaldo rape allegations.

According to the publication, Correio da Manhã, Madrid forced Ronaldo to pay off the alleged victim of the rape claim.

Real Madrid have said that these reports are “categorically false” and that they were put out there in a concerted effort to “seriously damage the image of this club”.

In the statement by Madrid the club said it had “absolutely no knowledge of any of the information that the newspaper published with regard to the player Cristiano Ronaldo, and therefore the club was unable to take action on a matter of which it had no knowledge.”

A former model, Kathryn Mayorga, is accusing Ronaldo of raping her in 2009 in Las Vegas, a claim that the star player is denying vehemently.

Correio da Manhã reported that Ronaldo was against settling and paying the woman off but that Madrid insisted that he settle and get it over with.

The club has taken issue with this piece of information stating that it did no such thing and that it was going to take the Portuguese publication to court.
