Kukareta (Yobe), Oct.6, 2017 (NAN) The Yobe Agency for Community and Social Project on Friday launched a Programme to construct 20 houses for 20 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kukareta and Bulturam villages to support their resettlement process.

Alhaji Goni Babagana, General Manager of the agency, stated this in Kukareta village at the launching of the Group Development Project of the agency.

Babagana said the project was categorised into two groups for IDPs who had returned to their communities and those who decided to settle in their new places of abode.

“The projects are for two groups of IDPs who have decided to settle in Kukareta where they took refuge, and returnees of Bulturam-Bulin in Damaturu and Gujba local government areas.

“The projects consist of 10 units of two bedroom apartments each in Kukareta and Bulturam-Bulin, making a total of 20 beneficiaries,” he said.

He said the projects would cost about N19.453 million.

“The beneficiaries have provided five per cent of the cost; we are now presenting them with cheques covering 30 per cent of the amount, to be followed with 50 per cent and lastly 25 per cent as the project advances.

“We hope to assist 10 additional groups of vulnerable persons before the end of the year,” he said.

According to the general manager, the agency has launched 35 community development projects in Gujba and Gulani local government areas that were adversely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

He said Maternal and Child Health facilities destroyed by the insurgency in some communities had been reconstructed, expanded and provided with drugs.

He said classrooms, boreholes and market stalls destroyed in the communities had also been reconstructed, while drains were constructed to check flooding.

Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Lamin Muhammad, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the resources and facilities.

Gaidam also charged the host communities not to discriminate against the new settlers.

He also urged the agency to extend the gesture to other displaced persons to enable them to live a decent life
