Residents Urge Governor Makinde to Fulfill Promise on Elebu Road Reconstruction
Residents of Elebu, a community in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, have called on Governor Seyi Makinde to fulfill his promise to reconstruct the dilapidated Elebu Road.
The appeal was made on Wednesday where the residents expressed frustration that years after the governor assured them of repairs, the road remains in deplorable condition.
Elebu Road, which falls within the Circular Road corridor, was originally constructed during the administration of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi but has since deteriorated, leaving commuters and residents stranded, especially during the rainy season.
A resident, Mr. Dolapo Ajao, lamented the hardship caused by the poor road, saying it had disrupted daily life and business activities.
āThe road is in terrible shape. During the rainy season, it becomes impassable. Many people have even abandoned their homes because of the condition,ā he said.
Another resident, Mrs. Iyabode Aina, explained that members of the community had made efforts to fix the road temporarily.
āA few years ago, the youths raised money to fill potholes and grade the road, but that was only a short-term solution. When Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde, the former NURTW chairman, was alive, he used to help maintain it. Since his death, no one has stepped in,ā she said.
Mr. Kolade Adeoye also appealed directly to the governor, reminding him of his previous commitment.
āGovernor Makinde promised to reconstruct this road when he came to commission the community health centre. We are urging him to fulfill that promise before the next general elections,ā he said.
Residents say the current state of the road has crippled economic activity and increased transportation costs, calling on the state government to act swiftly to ease their suffering.
