The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo SAN, has called on officials not to overreact to the call by the opposition on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign.

He stated this in a Friday tweet while reacting to the controversy generated by Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe’s comments on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain had accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of failing to live up to its campaign promise to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians.

Abaribe alluded to a statement in which the president expressed shock over the security situation in the country.

The Abia South senator noted that Buhari must therefore immediately resign his position, a call many Nigerians re-echoed.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu described the call as “foolish”.

But Keyamo said the “hullabaloo” generated by the call was “unnecessary”.

He explained that it was normal all over the world for the opposition to demand the resignation of a sitting government.

The senior lawyer stated that they knew such demand would never be heeded.

Nonetheless, he said that the demand was a wake-up call that the present administration would do well not to ignore.

“The hullabaloo over the call by the opposition for the resignation of the President is unnecessary.

“It’s the usual singsong of opposition all over the world.

“They know it’s not going to happen. It’s just a way of telling govt to do more and we in government should see it in that light,” Keyamo tweeted.
