Rio 2016: Germany Ruthlessly End Nigeria’s Dream of Gold

2 Min Read

The Dream team crashed out as Germany beat Nigeria 2-0 in the Semi-Final played last night.

The team has been great all through the tournament but beating the Germans was just one step too far.

The Germans took the lead in the 9th minute through Lukas Klostermann and pressured from then on as the Nigerian defensive line looked shaky and lacked solidity.

The Germans were so dominant that Nigeria had Troost Ekong at the backline to thank for not conceding even more goals.

The Dream team did a lot better after the break, but they were unable to make the most of the chances that fell to them and they were made to rue this when Nils Petersen scored in the 89th minute after a stunning counter attack which saw only Troost Ekong as the defensive cover for Nigeria’s goalkeeper.

The Nigerians had done well so far overcoming Japan, Sweden and Denmark before finally falling to the Germans.

They will now play Honduras who fell heavily to Brazil who trounced them 6-0 including a record-breaking goal from Neymar which was scored after a mere 15 seconds.

This means the team will miss out on their $30,000 bonus from the Japanese Plastic Surgeon who only promised that amount on delivering Gold.

Meanwhile this will be a chance for Brazil to have their revenge on Germany who flogged them 7-1 the last time the sides met at the World Cup 2014.
