RIO 2016: Sports Minister Ejects Two U-23 Team Players, 3 Officials

The Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung has ejected two U-23 team players and three officials from the Rio 2016 competition.

The ejected delegates have been sent back to Nigeria.

The two affected players according to Punch reports include:

1. Stanley Dimgba (Player)
2. Yusuf Mohammed (Goalkeeper)

The officials affected include:

1. Timi Ebikagboro – (Team’s media officer)
2. Team curator
3. Team coordinator

The affected participant were flown down to Nigeria on Monday night.

Speaking on the development, the Nigerian Football Federation spokesman said: “We said they should send them back home if they could not take care of them (players and officials.”

The Sports Minister according to reports had complained about the huge financial burden incurred by the delegates and participants of the competition.

dalung explaining the financial constraint said: “The organisers of the Games, the International Olympic Committee, are only responsible for 25 accredited players and officials including feeding, flights and accommodation. We have been carrying the rest along. In Manaus, we were forced to pay camp allowances to the extra four players making 29”.
