Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers has announced plans by his administration to inaugurate a Trust Fund to cater for needy Christian clerics and some of their members.

Wike announced the plan in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by his spokesman, Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, on Monday.

According to the statement, the governor gave the assurance at a meeting with the Pentecostal Leaders of International Church Impact Communion (ICICI).

He said the trust fund would be managed by leaders of the Christian community and assured that the fund would be sustained.

“This decision to create a trust fund is because Rivers is purely a Christian state, and as such, we must show that we are truly a Christian state.

“We are here because of the prayers of Christians and the grace of God which through their consistent prayers has resulted to the relative peace we currently enjoy in the state,” he said.

Wike said that a Christian Ecumenical Centre currently undergoing construction would be completed on or before May.

The governor said that the Government House Chapel had been completed and in use.

Speaking, John Praise, the leader of the ICICI team, expressed happiness and commended the governor for the projects.

He said the current administration had promoted Christianity in the state and beyond. (NAN)
