Rivers man arrested for killing neighbour over goat theft

The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested a man, Chibueze Ojiriome, who killed his neighbour, Aleruchi Awuzuruike for accusing him of stealing a goat.

According to the command, the incident occurred in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

In the Thursday incident, Awuzuruike was said to have gone to Ojiriome’s house to accuse him of stealing and killing his goat.

This reportedly led to an altercation between the duo, during which the suspect brought out a machete and inflicted several cuts on the victim.

Some vigilante members alerted to the ruckus generated arrested Ojiriome and handed him over to the police in Ubima, a resident, Gift Chimele said.

A human rights activist, Amadi Onuoha while condemning the incident also called on the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure diligent prosecution of the suspect if found culpable.
