Robben Returns With A Goal As Bayern Thrash Cologne

1 Min Read

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben returned to the squad after a one-month long injury lay-off to score a goal in the 4-0 whitewash of FC Cologne.

The Dutch player had been side-lined after sustaining a thigh injury last month while on international duty and was unexpected to make coach Pep Guardiola’s team for the encounter.

He however justified the coach’s faith in him by opening scoring for the Bavarian side in the 36th minute of the encounter.

Arturo Vidal doubled the lead in the 40th minute, before in-form striker Robert Lewandowski scored in the 62nd minute to take the scoreline to 3-0 and increase his tally in the league to 13 goals in 10 games.

Thomas Muller completed the rout with a 77th minute penalty after Dominic Maroh brought down Lewandowski in the penalty box.

Bayern maintained their perfect start to the league season, accruing 30 points in 10 games, which has seen them open a 10-point lead over second-place Borussia Dortmund, who have a game at hand.
