Infamous armed robber, Kingsley Utomobong, has been apprehended, for allegedly killing the Cross River State Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Egbe Edum.

Egbe Edum was butchered to death by armed men at 8 Mile, along Murtala Muhammed Highwasy, Calabar, on Wednesday, December 2.

The deceased was said to have been stranded after the bus conveying him broke down along the way.

He then put a call to his spouse and was waiting for her to come pick him up.

Utomobong and his gang of dare-devil robbers, then attacked the Police official and carted away with his belongings.

It is believed that the gang did not know the identity of the victim.

“The man’s belongings were found on Kingsley and his gang members, They did not know that he was a policeman or the nephew to the deputy Governor,” a source informed.

“The ACP travelled by road to Calabar and made friends with one lawyer on the bus. Nobody knew he was a police officer until they reached Calabar where the bus broke down at 8 Mile by the highway.

“He then called his wife and gave her his location to come and pick him up. I don’t know why he left where the other passengers were of why his weapon as a policeman was not handy when he moved from where everyone was standing,” the source went on.

“He then strolled forward with his lawyer friend and that was how Kingsley and his gang waylaid them. They were both asked to hand over their bags. The lawyer complied, but the ACP refused and held on to his bag. They then hacked his wrist, probably to get him to release the bag. He bled to death.

The victim was then hacked to death and the gang made away with his belongings.

Utomobong is known for robbing residents of the state.

He is believed to be a close friend to the Governor of Cross Rivers state, Ben Ayade.
