Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has expressed his delight at the chance to lead the team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

He made this known when he joined the Eagles’ camp at the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Thursday.

Mikel played a pivotal role in the Super Eagles qualification for the tournament but missed out of recent fixtures over visa issues in China.

But according to a terse statement on the Twitter handle of the Super Eagles, Mikel said, ā€œI am happy to be here. It is a huge privilege to play with this team and represent Nigeria at the World Cup.ā€

The 31-year-old midfielder will lead the Eagles out in Monday’s friendly against DR Congo in Uyo and another against the Three Lions of England in London on June 2.
