Russia vs. Ukraine: London Summit Produces No Concrete Plan, Say Russian Lawmakers

2 Min Read

Notable Russian lawmakers have criticized the recent European summit held in London, claiming it produced no substantial plan to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Konstantin Kosachev, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Russia’s upper house of parliament, expressed on the Telegram messaging app that the only hope for Ukraine lies in improved Russian-US relations. He dismissed the London meeting as a desperate attempt to pass off as a success the failure of a decade-long policy of inciting Ukraine against Russia, led by Great Britain and, until recently, the United States.

Kosachev stated, “Europe has no plan. And if Ukraine should count on something, it can only be on progress (if there is any to come) in Russian-American relations.” He also added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who hosted the meeting, must understand this reality.

Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the lower house’s Committee on International Affairs, echoed Kosachev’s sentiments, asserting that the summit would not save Zelenskyy’s position following his acrimonious talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington. Slutsky described the London summit as a failed attempt to restore Zelenskyy’s political reputation, which had suffered a resounding blow in Washington.

Adding his voice to the criticism, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now a senior security official, dismissed the London gathering even before it concluded. Medvedev described the summit on social media platform X as a “coven to swear allegiance to the Nazi nobodies in Kiev” and called it a “shameful sight.”
