Russian Prime Minister Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Russian Prime Minister , Mikhail Mishustin has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus and will therefore be going into self-isolation.

Speaking during a televised meeting, Mishustin recommended that First Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov should become the acting Prime Minister for the duration of his absence. Mishustin, 54, was named prime minister in January.

According to Time Magazine, Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin expressed hope that Mishustin would continue taking part in drafting policies to shore up the Russian economy, which has been hurt by the pandemic. In Russia, the prime minister oversees the economy and answers to the president.

Putin revealed that Russia is entering ‘the most intense stage’ of the epidemic as health workers report shortage of protective gear.

The coronavirus death toll in Russia reached 1,000 and its total number of cases broke through 100,000 today after another record of new infections.
